Become a Broker or Consultant

Commissions and Compensation

Premier Health Plan partners with brokers and consultants, so wants our customers to understand how brokers and consultants are compensated. All of our compensation programs are administered in accordance with applicable law.

Base Commissions

Base commissions are the primary way brokers and consultants are compensated. Base commissions are built into the premiums or fees paid by our clients and are paid as a percentage of the premium or set amount per employee. In some cases, commission rates might be negotiated with the broker or consultant at the time of the proposal request. Base commissions are paid to the current “agent of record” for as long as the client remains with us.

Bonus Programs

Premier Health Plan may have a structured bonus program that financially rewards broker or consultants for placing business with Premier Health Plan. These occasional bonus programs are in accordance with all state and federal laws and regulations.

Non-Cash Programs

From time to time, Premier Health Plan may reward brokers and consultants with non-cash programs such as educational training sessions, meetings with plan leadership or other prizes. These occasional bonus programs are in accordance with all state and federal laws and regulations.

Consulting Fee-Based (Non-Commissionable)

Premier Health Plan accommodates clients who prefer to pay brokers or consultants directly. We remove these cases from our bonus and override programs. No base commissions are included in their medical premiums or fees or in their stop-loss premium.

General Agent or Consultant Compensation

Premier Health Plan also works with general agents who manage a network of brokers and consultants. We pay overrides to compensate the general agent for providing certain services. These payments are not directly included in the premiums, but are included in our general distribution costs.

Regulatory Reporting Requirements

In compliance with Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), Premier Health Plan supports required reporting of compensation paid to brokers and consultants by employers. Premier Health Plan includes all commissions, bonuses and overrides in the information provided to clients in this reporting.
